Constructing a Circular Material and Product-as-a-Service Low-Carbon Business Model for LED Light Fixtures
Absrtact |
This project, titled "Constructing a Circular Material and Product-as-a-Service
Low-Carbon Business Model for LED Light Fixtures," includes the following tasks:
(1) Development and production of green-designed LED panel lights, implemented
in three sites for application, leasing, and applying for carbon offset projects. (2)
Completion of a comparative report on the disassembly of LED panel lights. (3)
Research and development of rcycling process for recovery of gallium from waste
LEDs. (4) Drafting an eco-label specification standard for LED lighting fixture leasing
businesses. (5) Discussions on the application of LED lighting fixtures in ESG and
net-zero carbon emissions.
Outcomes include the completion of modular green-designed LED panel lights,
which are 70% more energy efficient than T5 fluorescent tubes and 29~60% more
efficient than commercially available LED panel lights. Among the three
implemented sites, two sites replaced T5 fluorescent lamps with leased greendesigned
panel lights, and one site replaced standard LED flat panels with greendesigned
ones. The carbon reduction benefits are 70%, 60%, and 35%, respectively.
The comparative report on LED panel light disassembly confirms that our greendesigned
panel light has the highest disassembly and maintainability. We completed
material metal composition analysis for the waste LED and gallium recycling
technology, selecting the optimal inorganic acid for separation and recovery,
optimising the nitric acid leaching process, and selective precipitation recovery of
gallium. We also completed the draft of the eco-label specification standard for LED
lighting fixture leasing businesses and submitted it for specification standard review
procedure. Research and analysis were conducted on the necessity of carbon footprint
product category rules for LED panel light, the lighting-as-a-service model with SDGs
8/9/11/12/17, and corresponding ESG economic, environmental, and social issues.
